Design projects can span thousands of touch-points, with dozens of facets, revolutionary visuals and executions that change the very fabric of a product line, industry or even ideology -- but if its not useful, useable, its 'just' art.
The feeling of being useful is something many of us chase from the moment we first tidy away our toys, monitor our school halls, run for charity, or work for no money. It's something I have chased in all those moments, and still chase with every project, a relevance, a point, to every detail in every context.
After a decade of indecision and fear stuck in a non-career, that need to be useful, to make something, to be helpful drove me to pursue a more meaningful path into the world of graphic design.
Starting night classes and learning enough to get by, devoting 100's of hours to online tutorials and failed projects (many still available here), taking a significant pay cut to join an indirect apprenticeship, and taking multiple jobs with dubious prospects, over the best part of decade I have chased relevancy.
Now, with over 5 years experience as a dedicated designer, doing anything and everything: from brand creation, re-creation, control and growth; to web and application development at project start, middle and end, I've learned hard lessons and invaluable insights. I have built a deep understanding of how to design across a massive spectrum of devices, platforms and channels from print media to fully digitised motion graphics. I meet each new challenge as a learning opportunity and chance for growth, always respecting investment and with an eye on providing the best possible value from endowed time and money.
